Hurricane Readiness

Hurricane Season is here. Time to be proactive and prep for the event a hurricane impacts our area

Below we have several informational PDFs that  can be used to help plan for a hurricane, locate the best escape routes and  links to websites that will provide the latest information on hurricane tracking.

Note: In the above forecast/radar  tracker, if you click on the  Red Windy.com icon it will take you to a full screen view. Additional layers such as rain, or even surf conditions can be added.

Island Access

Causeway

The causeway has flooded in past storms and hurricanes so remember to plan accordingly and provide enough time to leave the island if evacuation  is required.  If the causeway is flooded turn around and do not attempt to cross flooded roads or bridges as you can not be assured that the road is intact in front of you.  Many lives are lost attempting to cross a flooded roadway.

Gate Access

In an event of an hurricane or evacuation the gate arms will remain in an open position as to aid in the  evacuation process and provide critical emergency personal access to the island without delay.

Arriving back home after a hurricane

Be prepared to not be able to access the island after a hurricane for a couple of days as the causeway could remain flooded.     Upon arrival back to the island be cautious of  areas that are flooded as you may not see what is under foot or car.  Be prepared to provide IDs to gain access to the area as police may require you to produce  IDs to assure non-residents are not attempting to gain access.

Updates from the HOA

Always utilize the local TV/Radio, NOAA and local emergency services to gain updated information during a hurricane or other natural disasters.  The HOA will  try its best to provide additional information via utilization of  the HOA Messenger for critical resident updates along with this website, email and the gate entrance sign to broadcast updates.  Note however this information will be provided by fellow residents  so please follow the latest information from news and local authorities for timely updates.
